Cambridge Historical Association Holdings:  Family Histories

 

As part of our collection, the Cambridge Historical Association has a number of family histories.  Some of these are genealogies and others are collections of articles or other materials from or about particular families.  We are listing our holdings in a series of entries on our blog.  Those whose name begins with A - B can be found in our earlier post

 

This will be a complete listing of our holdings with cross-references from some of the additional names in them.

 

  1. Anfinson see Nernes
  2. Apland one contains various clippings about the Apland barn (Apland/Freeland Barn), Apland reunions, and obituaries.
  3. Apland other binder is Ole Birchaug Descendants from May 2006 which goes back to 1710.  Many local family names are included.  Copies of Apland i Merika Avis (Aplands in America newsletter) from March 1996 and 1999, Norway in World War II, and a translation of "The Early Settlers from Stavanger and Hadaland, Norway in Central Iowa" are also in this binder.  The translation is from a Norwegian book by Hjalmer Rued Holand A.M. 1908.
  4. Apland see also Nelson 1849-1999, Nernes and Osnes
  5. Bastesen contains exerpts from Erasmus Rosenberger and His Families in Germany and America.  The earliest entry in the parts we have is from 1758.
  6. Bauge binder has articles about the historic Bauge Farmhouse and its move to Ames.  Nils Bauge was the original member of the family living in the log home which was built in 1866.

  8. Berhow Family Tree also contains minutes from the Berhow Reunion from 1932 to 2000.  Berhow was named for a farm on the island of Halsnoy on the coast of Norway.  The family tree has names to before 1692.

  10. Bundy Descendants - Descendants of William Bundy has the first child born about 1667 in North Carolina.  This is 12 pages long and includes some information from 2001.  Local family names include Cook, Tillotson, and Zook.
  11. Catron contains pictures from the family.
  12. Chandler-Tillotson-Wire-Warren includes family group sheets, pictures and copies of pictures, and copies of other papers.

  16. Esta Freeland Cox includes Bits & Pieces a booklet written and illustrated by Esta Freeland Cox, clippings, and auction signs for a Whitney estate.
  17. Cronk has a number of items and obituaries.
  18. Cronk has items from Leslie Cronk and Mary Elizabeth Whitney.

  21. Finch Family from 1595 to the present (2007).

  24. Hanevik is Hamingja by Robert Harold Hanevik.  It includes genealogy and photos.
  25. Hanks is the Ed Hanks Diary from 1907 to 1913.

  27. Harker see Cronk
  28. Hill has the Hill (Hauge) Genealogy 1774-1968 includes articles, obituaries, and pictures.  Some of these deal with sports.
  29. Hopper-Griffith has the Ancestors of Sarah Ellen (Nellie) Griffith from before 1622 and is dated June 25, 2004.  It also has the Ancestors of William Thomas Hopper from about 1766, again dated June 25, 2004.  It also contains some family pictures and obituaries.

  33. Kjellasvik is a translation of Kjellasvik with Stavanes by Sten Valen from Olen Saga II by Anders Haugland.  It includes people to around 1620.
  34. Klonglan is the Klungland-Klongland-Klonglan Genealogy from 1983, updated 1990.  It includes a chart back to 1633.

  38. Larson is The Larson Family History which includes a story and genealogy.
  39. Lewis see Nelson 1849-1999
  40. Maland is a Maland Genealogy booklet by Willene Klonglan, Betty Stoll, and Elizabeth Maland from 1981.  It goes back to 1754 and includes some updates in the 1990's.  There are pictures and genealogy.

  42. McHone-Hoyt is mainly original pictures including Tracy Hoyt and Frank McHone.
  43. McKee-McWillie is the McKee & McWillie Family from 2007.  It goes back to about 1716 in Scotland and includes pictures.

  45. Nelson has information about Andrew and Joseph Nelson including copies of articles, pictures and ads.  Andrew was probably the last Civil War veteran from Cambridge.  The articles include Dick and Shirley Snyder.
  46. Nelson 1849-1999 is Norway to America 150th Anniversary 1849-1999 Arrival of the first Nelson Family to America 71st Ersland-Nelson Reunion, August 08, 1999 Norway, IL.  It includes family trees to 1783, pictures, articles, and the reunion report.

  48. Nernes is Ole and Margratha Nernes with genealogy, articles, obituaries and pictures of them and various descendants. 
  49. Miami Hanks Cross Netterfield has copies and original pictures.  There are also letters from Warren Hanks and transcripts from H&B Memoirs of Story County (1890).
  50. Newgaard-Ostreme contains copies of pictures and parts of a family history including writeups and charts.  Among the sections are Lars Walden, Ole Olson and Martha Lindanger, Olaus Newgaard and Karina Olson, and Hanson from 1770 to 1980.
  51. Osnes is The Family of Kari Eliasdaughter Osnes which was prepared as a working notebook for the 1997 Ersland-Nelson Family Reunion August 10, 1997 in Cambridge, Iowa.  It includes Ersland and Nelson photos.

  54. Severson is Emigrants from Etna Norway and Descendants 1846-1959 which has articles, family trees from the late 1700's, and pictures.
